![]() As though it weren’t all complicated enough, with choosing your hotel, if you want the dining plan (and, if so, which dining plan?), and what fastpasses you want to book, you have to think about tickets, too! And, in true Disney fashion, there are several different ticket options. I thought I’d break them down for you so you can decide which kind of ticket is right for you. Magic Your Way Base Ticket Disney World tickets are called “Magic Your Way” tickets because you can customize them however you’d like. The Base Tickets allow you access to one theme park per person, per day. You can purchase 1 day tickets, or, you can purchase tickets that have up to 10 days on them. The days don’t need to be used consecutively, however, they do expire within 14 days of the first day of use unless you add on the “No Expiration” option. The more days you add on to your ticket, the cheaper it is per day. For example, at the time I’m writing this a two day base ticket costs $188/ticket for ages 10 and up. This works out to be $94/day per ticket. However, a five day ticket costs $304/ticket, which works out to be $60.80/day per ticket. Ticket Add On Options * Park Hopper Option - If you want to visit more than one theme park per day, you will need this option to do it. I always purchase this option because I like to go to the park with morning Extra Magic Hours, then go back to the hotel to swim and rest, and then go to a different park in the evening. If you did this without the Park Hopper Option you would be using two different days off your Magic Your Way Base Ticket. Again, at the time I’m writing this, it works out to be cheaper the longer you stay. So, to add the Park Hopper Option on to a two or three day base ticket it costs an additional $49/ticket (not per day…. just per ticket…. think of it like another $50 a person). However, if you have a base ticket that is anywhere from three to ten days, it only costs an additonal $60/ticket (or, again, per person, depending on how you look at it). * Water Park Fun and More Option - purchasing this option gives you a certain number of visits (ie. the number of days on your base ticket) to certain attractions within Disney World. The list of attractions includes: Blizzard Beach water park, Typhoon Lagoon water park, DisneyQuest (massive indoor arcade), ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, the Fantasia Gardens mini golf course and the Winter Summerland mini golf course. So say you have a six day base ticket and add the Water Park Fun and More Option. You will then have 6 visits (total, per ticket) to the previously mentioned attractions. However you want to split them up is up to you. If you want to visit Blizzard Beach three times and Typhoon Lagoon three times, go ahead. * Park Hopper and Water Park Fun and More Options - basically, if you want both of the previously mentioned options, they give you a discount. So, looking at the current prices (I have to keep mentioning that incase somebody reads this 45 years from now and gets crabby that the prices aren’t the same :)... for a ten day base ticket it would cost an additional $60 to add on the Park Hopper Option and an additional $60 to add on the Water Park Fun and More Option separately. However, if you chose this combination of the two it would cost $86 per ticket, thus saving you quite a bit of money. Just for the sake of comparison I thought I’d mention that today’s price for a single day water park ticket is $56.45 per adult. So, it is often, if not usually, advantageous to purchase the ticket add on options rather than buying individual tickets. Some things to keep in mind when choosing your tickets. 1) Will you be visiting at a time of year that you’ll likely swim? There will, not surprisingly, be far more people at the water parks in August than in January, when many find it too cold to swim. You’d hate to spend the additional money only to find out you don’t like swimming when it’s 70 degrees outside. 2) Which water park, if any, will be closed for annual refurbishment? This is routinely done in the winter months because the water parks are less popular at that time of year. However, even when this occurs, they only close one at a time. 3) You can upgrade your tickets at guest services (near the entrance to each theme park) once you’ve arrived. If you want to add on a day, or add the Park Hopper Option, etc. you can do so here (until the last day of your stay). 4) Don’t automatically assume you should purchase the No Expiration Option. It is usually cheaper to just buy how many days you need on your ticket for the current trip, and then purchase new tickets for the next trip. However, if you are seriously considering it, call Disney directly and they can help you out (their number is (407) 939-7679). I hope you found this helpful when trying to decide what ticket package is right for you and your family. Happy Planning! Comments are closed.
