Last year Disney announced they were trialing allowing (non-service animal) dogs in certain rooms at certain resorts on Disney World property for a fee. Because the fee is relatively steep, I don't anticipate this to be very popular, but if you are concerned this could be an issue for you, there are some things you can do. First of all, Disney dedicated certain buildings/sections of buildings/floors of certain buildings as the "dog rooms". Again, these are for dogs that have not been licensed as service animals. Even prior to this change, Disney has allowed licensed service animals in ALL their rooms. If your concern is potential barking, know that Disney does have rules and regulations regarding noise. If a dog is heard barking in a guest room the guest will immediately be called to come address the issue. There are designated pet relief areas and the dogs must be leashed whenever not in a guest room. If that doesn't ease your mind, you can always avoid booking a room in a category that allows non-service animal dogs. The total number of rooms on Disney property that are allowing these dogs is 1%, so you definitely have other options.
Here are the rooms/resorts that DO allow dogs: Art of Animation Resort - Standard Little Mermaid Rooms & Cars Family Suites Port Orleans Riverside Resort - Standard View Rooms & Garden View Rooms Cabins at Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground Yacht Club Resort - Garden and Lagoon View Rooms If you have your heart set on one of these categories, you are always able to request (through your travel agent, if you are using one) a room away from dogs. Not ALL rooms in these categories will have dogs in them. If your concern is allergies, remember all rooms accommodate service animals, so it is a possibility EVERYwhere on Disney property that a dog previously stayed in that room. If this is the case, you can request (again, through your travel agent if you used one) a VIP room clean for the first day of your stay. This is essentially an extra thorough cleaning of your room for guests with severe allergies. Because non-service animal dogs have a pretty steep daily cleaning fee ($75 at Yacht Club and $50 everywhere else), the dogs need to remain leashed when not in the room, and are not allowed outside the designated pet relief areas, I really don't expect this to be a common occurrence. At this point only licensed service animals are allowed in the parks...... along with Pluto. :) Comments are closed.
