![]() I’ve seen many posts with “rainy day” tips for Disney World. Thankfully, I’ve never had to drastically alter my vacation plans due to weather. However, many have, so I thought I’d take a second to address it. First, it’s Florida, so you can expect a daily rain shower. This really only has to be a slight inconvenience at most, with a little careful planning. Now, with smart phone technology you can check the radar to see when the rain is coming. Usually it only lasts a short while. In this case, we try to go on a little bit longer of a ride or see a show. When we come out the sun is shining once again! In EPCOT Ellen’s Energy Adventure is great for this! In the Magic Kingdom I think I’d either go to the Hall of Presidents or hit some of the shops on Main Street. They are all connected (on each side, obviously) so you can just go down the line without ever going outside (note: I also do this when I feel my body temperature pushing 200 degrees when we go in the summer – a little extra A/C can’t hurt!). Animal Kingdom is a little bit tougher since it is so big and spread out, but Festival of the Lion King would be a great choice if you can time it right (usually you end up waiting outside, though). I’d also hit It’s Tough To Be A Bug if it looks like rain. The majority of the time I’ve ended up waiting inside, and then the show is inside as well. Then there’s Hollywood Studios. Whenever there are torrential downpours on our trips, it’s when we’re at Hollywood Studios. Something to be aware of is that the Indiana Jones show will NOT be performed if there is lightning in the area. We found that out the hard way after waiting a REALLY long time. Major bummer here. There are connected shops right at the entrance of the park (like in Magic Kingdom) at Hollywood Studios as well. Use this time to do some shopping! Additionally, I think One Man’s Dream would be a good choice when it’s raining outside. Let’s say you have an ENTIRE day of rain coming up on your trip. Don’t despair! There are still a ton of things you can do! If you have the water park fun and more option added to your tickets, consider going to a water park if the weather is warm enough… you’re going to be wet anyway and odds are there will be pretty much non-existent lines! However, if there are storms with lightning, you will NOT be able to swim… so this is really just for the gray, wet days. Many people take rainy days as an opportunity to explore other hotels. With the exception of a couple of “sister” hotels, you usually can’t swim at a Disney resort other than where you are staying. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t hop on a bus, boat or monorail to another hotel and walk around, eat, shop and explore! I’ve also heard many people vote for going to Downtown Disney on a rainy day. This isn’t my favorite option, though. 1) The stores are not connected, so you’d have to go out in the rain to go from one store to the next. 2) If you’re planning on going to Disney Quest, this is a good idea….I’m not a fan of Disney Quest, though, since I don’t care for video games. 3) Going bowling or to the movies at Downtown Disney is another option many people like. If I was going on a long trip I’d consider one of these… but usually I feel like I’m already not going to do everything I want since there is SO much to do at Disney that I don’t like the idea of doing things I can do at home. 4) Cirque Du Soleil is a great (albeit pricey option) if there are any tickets left last minute. Lastly, there is always the option to suck it up and play in the rain. If you dress accordingly it doesn’t have to be miserable. You also may get practically the entire park to yourself! Again, if there is lightning there will be some rides that won’t operate, but there will still be tons that you can go on. If I saw I had an entire rainy day coming up on my trip I’d bring a poncho I brought from home and wear my crocs without socks. I know many people aren’t fans of this, so just wear whatever kind of footwear can get wet (NOT socks and tennis shoes). I think I would also put a small, thin pair of socks in my husband’s pocket (since I don’t bring a bag) for if and when it stops raining. No, nobody wants it to rain on their vacation, however, there’s nothing you can do about it. Come prepared and you can still have a great time. Remember, a rainy day at Disney World is still better than a sunny day at work! Comments are closed.
