Recommended gratuities are not included in the basic Disney Cruise Line fare. Disney currently recommends $16 USD per night for every stateroom guest, including infants and children. Guests in Concierge Staterooms and Suites have a higher recommended amount of $27.25 USD per night, per guest.

You can add prepaid gratuities before sailing. If you do not, Disney says the optional recommended amount will be added to your onboard account. Other gratuities—such as the automatic percentage charged on bar, adult dining and spa purchases—are separate from the standard prepaid amount.

Recommended amounts, automatic percentages, covered crew roles, payment procedures and policies can change. Confirm the details shown in My Reservations and on your sailing documents before travel.

How much are Disney Cruise gratuities?

Disney's official gratuities guidance currently recommends:

  • Most staterooms: $16 USD per night, per stateroom guest.
  • Concierge Staterooms and Suites: $27.25 USD per night, per stateroom guest.

The amount applies to every person in the stateroom, including infants and children. It is based on cruise nights rather than the number of meals eaten or times the room is serviced.

For a standard, non-Concierge stateroom, multiply the number of guests by the number of cruise nights by $16. For a Concierge accommodation, use $27.25 instead.

Disney Cruise gratuity examples

These examples use Disney's recommended amounts as of September 30, 2026:

  • Two guests on a 3-night cruise: 2 × 3 × $16 = $96.
  • Family of four on a 3-night cruise: 4 × 3 × $16 = $192.
  • Family of four on a 4-night cruise: 4 × 4 × $16 = $256.
  • Family of four on a 7-night cruise: 4 × 7 × $16 = $448.
  • Four Concierge guests on a 7-night cruise: 4 × 7 × $27.25 = $763.

These totals cover only the recommended gratuities distributed to the designated dining and stateroom teams. They do not include every possible service gratuity or onboard purchase.

Who receives Disney Cruise prepaid gratuities?

Disney currently distributes the standard prepaid amount among the crew members serving guests in these roles:

  • Dining room server
  • Dining room assistant server
  • Dining room head server
  • Stateroom host

Concierge guests' higher recommended amount also recognizes the assistant stateroom host who services Concierge accommodations and the Concierge Lounge team.

Disney Cruise Line's rotational dining model means your assigned dining team generally serves you in the main dining rooms as you rotate among them. The gratuity structure recognizes the service across the voyage rather than treating each included dinner as an unrelated restaurant visit.

Can you prepay Disney Cruise gratuities?

Yes. Disney says guests can add prepaid gratuities through My Reservations. When a cruise is booked through a travel advisor, the guest can contact the advisor to have prepaid gratuities applied to the reservation.

If the gratuities are not prepaid, Disney says the optional recommended amount will be added to the onboard account. This makes the timing different, but the suggested total is based on the same nightly amount.

Prepaying can be useful when:

  • You want more of the cruise cost paid before embarkation.
  • You prefer a smaller onboard account balance at the end of the sailing.
  • You are building one complete vacation budget before final payment.
  • You do not want to remember the standard gratuity calculation while onboard.

Waiting to pay onboard can be useful when:

  • You prefer to keep optional charges out of the advance payment.
  • You plan to use onboard credit toward eligible folio charges.
  • You want to review the onboard account before the cruise ends.

Onboard-credit rules and eligible uses can vary, so verify how any credit on your reservation may be applied instead of assuming it will cover a particular charge.

Can Disney Cruise gratuities be adjusted?

Disney describes the recommended gratuities as optional. If the amount has been added to your onboard account, you can visit Guest Services before the cruise ends to request an adjustment or removal.

Disney also states that requests to refund prepaid optional gratuities may be processed only in full back to the original form of payment. That original payment could include one made through a travel agency. Review the current policy before prepaying if flexibility matters to you.

If a service concern arises, speaking with Guest Services or the appropriate dining leader while still onboard gives the ship an opportunity to address the problem. The gratuity decision is yours, but resolving a service issue and recognizing the team are separate considerations.

Which gratuities are not covered by the standard prepaid amount?

The standard prepaid gratuity does not cover every tipped service. Disney currently identifies these examples as separate:

  • Extras added to rotational dining meals, including alcoholic beverages
  • Adult and premium dining locations outside rotational dining
  • Food or drinks purchased in shops and outdoor or poolside eateries
  • Room service
  • Port Adventures
  • Senses Spa & Salon
  • Other additional services

Disney currently adds an 18% gratuity to bar, beverage, wine, adult and premium dining, deck-service and spa-service tabs. That percentage is charged with the individual purchase and is not replaced by the $16 or $27.25 nightly recommendation.

For included room service, Disney's official cruise-fare guidance says fees may apply to certain items and deliveries and that a gratuity is at the guest's discretion. Check the receipt or onboard app so you understand what has already been added before tipping again.

Are gratuities included with food on a Disney cruise?

Many meals are included in the cruise fare, but the recommended dining-team gratuities are not. Those are different parts of the budget.

Rotational dining, casual dining and many quick-service choices are generally included. Adult dining, alcoholic beverages and certain specialty items cost extra, and their applicable gratuities are separate. For the broader fare breakdown, read what is included in a Disney cruise.

Do children pay Disney Cruise gratuities?

Yes. Disney's recommended nightly amount applies to every stateroom guest, including infants and children. A family should therefore use the full number of guests—not only adults—when estimating the standard gratuity total.

This is one reason the final cost can surprise first-time cruisers. A family of four on a seven-night cruise should currently budget $448 for the standard recommended gratuities before accounting for separately charged percentages and discretionary tips.

Do Concierge guests pay more in gratuities?

Yes. The current Concierge recommendation is $27.25 USD per night, per guest. Disney explains that the higher amount includes the additional Concierge service roles along with the standard dining and stateroom positions.

The Concierge room price does not remove this recommended amount. If you are comparing whether the category fits your vacation, include gratuities in the total rather than looking at the room price alone. The Disney Cruise Concierge decision guide explains the broader benefits and tradeoffs.

Should you bring cash for tips?

You can charge gratuities to the onboard account, and prepaid gratuities cover the designated crew roles at Disney's suggested amount. Some guests also choose to provide additional cash recognition for exceptional service or to tip for services where the amount is discretionary.

Extra cash is a personal choice, not a substitute for understanding which charges are already on your folio. Review receipts for the automatic percentage before adding another tip, and keep small bills available only if that makes your preferred tipping approach easier.

How to add gratuities to your Disney cruise budget

Use this simple process before booking:

  1. Count every person who will occupy the stateroom, including infants and children.
  2. Multiply the guest count by the number of cruise nights.
  3. Multiply by $16 for most staterooms or $27.25 for Concierge accommodations.
  4. Add a separate allowance for purchases that carry an 18% gratuity, such as bar, adult-dining and spa tabs.
  5. Decide whether to prepay the standard amount or leave it for the onboard account.
  6. Recheck Disney's current amounts before final payment and again before sailing.

Do not estimate the trip using the advertised cruise fare alone. Include transportation, travel documents, pre- or post-cruise hotel nights if needed, Port Adventures, specialty purchases and gratuities. If you are still choosing an itinerary, the first Disney cruise length guide can help you compare the cost impact of three-, four- and longer sailings.

Gratuity questions to ask before booking

  • How many guests—including children—will be in the stateroom?
  • How many nights is the cruise?
  • Are you considering a Concierge Stateroom or Suite?
  • Will your group book adult dining, spa services or beverage packages?
  • Do you prefer to prepay known costs or settle them on the onboard folio?
  • Does your reservation include onboard credit, and what can it be used toward?

Answering those questions makes the gratuity budget predictable. It also creates a fairer comparison among sailings of different lengths and between standard and Concierge staterooms.
